Salman finds himself jailed and interrogated by the brutal Egyptian secret service in Cairo because of his alleged involvement with three suspected terrorists. In a nuanced and intriguing way, the film touches on issues such as the morality of torture, the effectiveness of the War on Terror, the role of Arabs in American society and the struggle between traditionalism and progressiveness in the Muslim world.
Featured/Short Documentary
Victoria is a documentary short about an old piano (Victoria) and the people who play her. Located in the St. Anthony Dining Room in San Francisco, Victoria is visited and played daily by many of San Francisco's homeless and low-income population. Although being out of tune, missing keys and having broken pedals, Victoria, as one guest says, 'is just like us, she may be all broken but she still plays, she still has a melody.' An upright grand that has physically seen a better day and has a mostly unknown history, Victoria, it could be argued, has never sounded so good.

Welcome to the 2008 Northern California Film Festival
Northern California (that geographic area which includes Fresno County northward) is a growing factor in the American film industry. With film centers in Sacrament, San Francisco and the central valley, Northern California has been called Hollywood North and The REEL Hollywood. Hundreds of films are shot here annually, most of which receive little or no recognition in that "other" California.

Here is your chance. This is an opportunity to show what filmmakers from Northern California can do. Rules are simple - THE WRITER, PRODUCER OR DIRECTOR must either reside in Northern California or make their films here (at least 50% of the edited footage from Northern California ._

Selected films will have their chance for BIG SCREEN exposure and possible inclusion on a compilation DVD. Prizes will be awarded to films and filmmakers.

Don't just sit there, show them that we are the REEL Hollywood. Submit your film (30 minutes or less this year). Click the ENTER tab above for a printable entry form.
